So, grab some keyframes from a GIF, draw them over, and then tween the action yourself. Try and do your own thing, without copying what's in the original.

This is great practice and lots of fun.

It's been a whole since my last update, as usual, and as usual, a lot has been going on.

Firstly, things are going great at The Animation School, and if things continue to go great, which I'm hoping it will, I'll hopefully finally start on my Honours in Animation next year, and Masters after that.

So apart from that, I'm also moving into my own place this weekend. It's spacious, and has a lot of sunlight, which, as any artist knows, is great for killing the fungus that tends to grow in one' ears if you haven't Gotten Out Much Lately.

Also, cheap meals and laundry are offered, which is nice.

Anyway, I'm making progress with Space Helga, and I'm really looking forward to showing it to everybody in  oh, about another two or three months. First up, I need to finish texturing. Helga's space, rig it and shoot its flight path. Next, start cleaning up the block, make some keys, then Tweens, then color that sucker.

Also, I'm pretty sure the voice over work is going to be a huge pain in the arse, as I have. Yet to learn how to do that, but I'm sure it won't pose that much of a problem.

So, yeah, that's me.

Animation-study-2
So as I'm still working on Space Helga, I've found that doing some (relatively) quick studies from some 2D and 3D films really help getting the juices flowing. Just focusing on  particular elements from the clip and leaving the rest quite rough. I can't overstate how useful I find this. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't teach me how to animate any of my own stuff, but just like studying comic artists' styles etc, I've found that studying other animators' modus operandi to be equally useful. AND you can see what's wrong with yours whilst comparing notes with the real masters.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on it?

Hey peoples.

So it's been yonks since I've update my journal, and I apologise for my lack of updates. Truth is, I haven't written much of anything in quite some time, and my fingers are itching for my keyboard.

So, let's just recap with what I've been up to:

OK, so I got a new job about three months back. I'm now a junior lecturer at the Animation School in Johannesburg. Honestly, in the last three months I've learned more than I have in three years. Also guys, if there's one thing I can say in teaching people is underrated. You won't believe how rewarding it is to help people with their stuff, and share with them the stuff you love doing.

Anyways, currently, art-wise, I'm busy working on animation animation animation. If it's not TVpaint, it's Maya,Mudbox, and sometimes ZBrush, and Photoshop, of course. Damnit, I have to say the more you delve into animation, the less you want to do anything else.

So, yeah, I'll keep all of you posted on the animation progress for Space Helga, and hopefully if I can get some time in the following few months, some new and/or continuing books I'm working on.

Well, uh, I don't really have any OCs to speak of, per se. But I'm game trying to make something bellydance. Could be great animation practice. Just know that I've got a heap of stuff to do work-wise which get preference, so it might take a while.
